Jamie is the President of the Students’ Union for 2020-1 and is the Chair of the Trustee Board. He is also Chair of the Finance, Audit & Risk, and Service Development Committees, and sits on the Health & Safety Committee. As President of the Students’ Union, he is also a University Governor. Jamie is passionate about student representation, having been a Chair of School and a member of the University’s Quality & Standards Committee. He has been engaged in a variety of student activities including being a student ambassador, a Committee Officer for the YSJ Badminton Club, and an event host for the Students’ Union.
Aimee became a Sabbatical Trustee in 2021 after a year as a Student Trustee. Aimee chairs the Health & Safety Committee and sits on the Service Development Committee. She recently completed her undergraduate degree in Drama: Education & Community and has been heavily involved with the SU during her degree as an academic rep, Chair of School of the Arts, and committee member of Badminton & MPS. She has a social justice agenda within the higher education sector & is keen to promote an equitable & inclusive learning environment for all YSJ students. She has a particular interest in the value of peer mentoring systems at a HE level - she implemented a pilot system of this into the YSJ Drama & Dance department in 2019 which has subsequently been wider implemented across the university. Aimee is also an advocate for promoting the social capital of the university and is passionate about developing opportunities for students to grow as individuals both academically & personally whilst at YSJ.
Chris joined the Trustee Board as a Sabbatical Trustee in 2021. Chris chairs the People and Culture Committee and sits on the Finance, Audit & Risk Committee. He recently finished his Research Masters Degree in Film and Media and is now undertaking a PhD specialising in nostalgia within music and documentary part-time alongside being a full-time sabbatical officer. He has been involved with the Students’ Union during his time at university as an undergraduate and a post-graduate student, being elected as a Liberation Officer as well as undertaking the role of Charity Secretary and Club Captain of the YSJ Badminton club. Chris is passionate about representing students and being able to make positive change for all those studying at York St John and ensuring that YSJ is an educational, fun, inclusive, and safe environment.
Amanda joined the Trustee Board in 2020 as an External Trustee. She sits on the Elections and Health & Safety Committees. Originally from Cornwall and elected to Sabbatical Offices in Falmouth and Exeter, Amanda is currently Chair of the British Youth Council, where she has overseen a significant period of change; the introduction of new strategies and initiatives to help young people advise the Government of the day on a broad range of topics. Amanda also works in politics, particularly on social mobility, and as senior management in the People’s Vote Campaign.
Tiffany joined the Trustee Board as an External Trustee in 2021. Tiffany sits on the People & Culture Committee. Tiff has worked in various roles at the University of Winchester since 2015 and is currently Student Engagement Manager at Winchester Student Union. Building on her BA (Hons) in Education Studies from Bath Spa University, Tiff graduated with a Distinction in her PGCert in Student Engagement in Higher Education from the University of Winchester. Tiff often speaks at local, national, and international conferences in the sector, with expertise in the areas of student engagement beyond the curriculum, student voice, partnership, and students' unions' engagement with underrepresented student groups. Tiff has been published in the International Journal for Students as Partners (IJSaP) and is an Associate of the Centre for Student Engagement at Winchester.
Katherine joined the Trustee Board in 2020 as an External Trustee. She sits on the Finance, Audit & Risk, and Service Development Committees. After receiving a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of York, Katherine now works with the East Riding of Yorkshire Council as a Business Change Manager. Katherine brings her expertise in change management and experience in local government to the Trustee Board. She is also a non-executive director of Yorkshire Country Cricket Club and teaches at the University of York.
Richard joined the Trustee Board in 2016 as an External Trustee and has served for four years as its Deputy Chair. He sits on the People and Culture and Service Development Committees. Richard has worked at the University of Huddersfield since 2015, currently as a Business Manager within Student Services; and has previously worked at the University of York Students’ Union and Leeds University Union. Richard was appointed as a Magistrate in 2014, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 2017, became a Chartered Manager in 2019 and served as a Governor of the University of Huddersfield between 2017 and 2020. Richard brings extensive knowledge of the higher education sector and a passion for improving the student experience.
Mike joined the Trustee Board in 2017 as an External Trustee. He sits on the Finance, Audit & Risk, and Health and Safety Committees. After holding roles at the Higher Education Academy and Equality Challenge Unit was University Secretary at Leeds Metropolitan University, and subsequently Independent Assessor to the Student Loans Company. Mike was also a Magistrate in Leeds and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. He is presently Chair of Unipol Student Homes, a charitable housing company serving thousands of students in Leeds, Bradford, and Nottingham. He brings to the Trustee Board his longstanding commitment and respect for the crucial work of Students’ Unions for their communities.
