VPE Blog | Who Runs The World…

The 8th of March is International Women’s Day. Yes, I know I am bit late, but what’s wrong with celebrating women EVERYDAY?

So, here is a list of my top 5 favourite gals who have made this world a far better place.

Malala is a 19 year old activist from Pakistan who has not only survived being shot in the head but is the YOUNGEST EVER Nobel Prize Laureate. I read her book whilst doing my degree and she is so inspiring but also makes me feel incredibly grateful for the ease of which I have had an education. Look up some of her speeches on YouTube or read her book, she is AWESOME.

Not only did she discover radium and polonium, Marie Curie bad a huge contribution to the fight and study of cancer. A fave quote – “Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted for something and that this thing must be attained.”

Do I really have to explain why she is in my top 5? Her “Let Girls Learn” charity campaign raised more than $3.5bn in ONE YEAR.

She tackles gender inequality, Trump, she admits she loves food and sex and she is HILARIOUS. Meryl Streep is an absolute GEM and has given some seriously powerful speeches, for example, this one - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EV8tsnRFUZw

I only recently discovered Rupi Kaur’s work through a recommendation by a friend. Her spoken word poetry is haunting and her words are SO RELATABLE. She evokes sass in her words and is all about female self worth. Watch some of her stuff here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlToQQfSlLA

ICELAND - I know I know, Iceland is a country. But on this year’s International Women’s Day it became the first country in the world to make companies prove equal pay, pledging to eradicate the gender pay gap by 2022. Big Wins, Iceland, Big Wins!

SARA BLAKELY - Sara Blakely is the founder of Spanx and I owe my life to her. “Don’t estimate a woman who wants her butt to look better in white pants.” Plus, in 2013 she signed a pledge to donate HALF OF HER WEALTH to support her mission of empowering women. YES, SARA!

AND FINALLY... The 106 year old lady at the top of the page who protected her home with a rifle in Armenia. Kim Kardashian is popular but is she as badass as this lady?!
