Freshers Week: Don’t Fall for Ticket Scams

The new academic year is fast approaching, which also means Freshers' Week is almost upon us! Unfortunately, it’s also the time of year that students are targeted with unofficial Freshers' events and tempted with false deals by external companies.

Students across the UK have already reported being sold tickets to unofficial Freshers' Week events that may be cancelled due to COVID-19 (Coronavirus). Don’t fall for online scammers and illegitimate companies taking advantage of the current situation and selling unofficial tickets to Freshers' events.

How can you protect yourself?

  • Join our official Freshers' 2020 Facebook Group to stay connected and up to date with our Freshers' week activity.
  • Keep an eye on our main Facebook Page and website. When our official events are announced they will be found on these platforms.
  • Do not feel pressured to purchase a ticket, even if it’s "almost sold out!" - if you're unsure, you can contact us first.
  • Speak to other students in our Facebook Freshers' Group to find out what events they’re attending.
  • Be careful what personal information you share online if signing up to external groups and websites.
  • Contact us to verify events before you purchase tickets if you have any concerns.
  • If you are suspicious of any events please contact us so we can report and remove deceptive pages.

Our Facebook Freshers' Group is also a great (and safe) way to connect with course mates and find friends before the semester starts! While you’re at it, give us a follow on our Twitter and Instagram pages to keep up to date with everything going on at the Students’ Union over the Summer!
