Decision Day 2020

Decision Day 2020

Published: 1st April 2020, 9:00am

It's Decision Day! Unfortunately, you can't be here to experience how incredible York St John is for yourself. However, the Presidents have put together some videos to tell you about all of the things the Students' Union provides for students, from sports to volunteering!

Take a look for yourself and we hope to see you in September.

Academic Reps

Academic Representatives are students who stand up on behalf of the rest of the class to voice thoughts and concerns about the programme. They are volunteers who give up their time to do this, but in turn are awarded by the Students’ Union through our accreditation system. We ask Academic Reps to come to meetings such as the Education Zone, communicate with their Subject Directors, tutors and Chair of School on a regular basis, as well as speak to their fellow students and take their feedback forward.

Becoming an Academic Rep is really easy. From the first week of teaching, the Students' Union team come into lectures to hold elections for the position!

The Students' Union is made up of the Bar, the Coffee Lounge and Info Point. Between these three fantastic facilities, you can buy some York St John goodies, grab a hot drink, chill out with your mates and have somewhere to study.

There are weekly events at the Students' Union, ranging from quizzes to karaoke. Our societies and sports clubs also host brilliant events throughout the year. In the past, these have included balls, eating contests and games nights. The events raise money for local and national charities!

Here at York St John Students' Union, we are proud to have a range of different and innovative societies as part of our community. They are a great way to enhance your university experience, make new friends and meet like-minded people with the same interests as you.

If you can’t find any that interest you, it's easy to get your very own society up and running! We offer support along the way to make sure this process is as easy as possible.

Sports Clubs

We have a wide range of sports clubs that students can join while they study at York St John, from American Football to Volleyball! Most of our teams compete in BUCS, where they are in a league against other universities. They also compete in our varsity competitions against Sunderland Students' Union and Leeds Trinity Students' Union. Sports clubs are an excellent way to make new friends stay fit.

Like societies, If you can’t find a sports club for you, it's easy to start a new club. We offer support along the way to make sure this process is as easy as possible.

Volunteering is a fantastic way to get involved with new and exciting opportunities alongside your degree. Our projects and opportunities allow you to gain new skills, make a difference to both the community and the University, and ensure you're getting involved with as much as you possibly can whilst studying here at York St John University!

WellU is the Students' Union's fun and inclusive recreational programme which includes a variety of sports and activities. There are sessions available every week, whether you want to learn a new sport, keep fit, have a break from your studies or meet new friends. The sessions are for everyone, regardless of ability or experience and there's a team of student activators who lead the activities.

Membership for the whole year is just £15 and allows you to access as many sessions as you want.
