Pres Blog | Campaign Week!

Pres Blog | Campaign Week!

Hello YSJ!

We have an exciting week ahead, mainly because of the fact we have TWO very large campaigns happening on campus all week.

The first campaign is our All About Respect campaign, something the University and Annie Severn our brilliant President of Wellbeing and Diversity have been working closely on all year. The campaign itself is an awareness campaign, highlighting the issues centred around sexual violence, harassment and abuse. “Together we are raising awareness about the importance healthy relationships, consent and respect, in order to strengthen the prevention of sexual violence, harassment and abuse”; you can find out more about the project itself following this link - but see below for all the information that is happening throughout the week on campus:

Information stalls will be located in Holgate and the SU, with a pledge for students to sign throughout the entire three days.

Tuesday:

  • 09:00 – 17:00 – Sport and Society row-a-thon, raising money for the campaign and the Healthy Relationships project.  There will be a bake sale on all day as well so please come down to the SU and donate in any way you can!
  • 13:15 – 13:45 – The Dance Club have created a beautiful routine in conjuncture with the campaign itself, and will be performing in the Holgate canteen area just after 13:00.

Wednesday:

  • 12:00 – 14:00 – A few members of staff will be up at Haxby getting students to sign the pledge board that stands by a Zero Tolerance towards sexual violence, harassment and abuse.

Thursday:

  • 14:00 – 16:00 – The campaign will be screening a documentary in relation to the campaign in DG/017.
  • 18:00 – In the SU there will be a showcase of students work, both spoken word and performance, as a finishing activity to the week long programme.

As the issues around this campaign are extremely current and relevant right now, we encourage all students to get involved and participate where they can.

Our 2nd campaign is the Travel to Campus campaign, a brilliant initiative led by York Council with the aim to promote sustainable travel to and from University campus’ in York. Due to the fact York is a very biking friendly city, this campaign is heavily focused on students who bike to and from University. For students this is a fantastic opportunity to speak to trained staff members who are highly skilled in bike safety, bike repairs and also how to look after your bike for the future. Please find below some information on what the team from the council will be doing all week:

There will be an information stall and smoothie maker from Tuesday – Thursday, so work up an appetite for a smoothie!

Wednesday:

  • Guided Ride – two start times, 11:30 and 13:30
  • Bike Dr – 10:00 – 15:00
  • Drop in Maintenance Workshop sessions – 10:00 – 12:00 and 13:00 – 15:00

Thursday:

  • Guided Ride – two start times, 11:30 and 13:30
