MEET YOUR PRESIDENTS 2019-20

Published: 15th March 2019, 11:00am

PRESIDENT OF THE STUDENTS' UNION

What’s your name and where are you from?

My name is officially Timothy but everyone calls me Tim. I was born in Leeds but grew up in the Wakefield area

What are you studying?

Business Management & Finance

What would you say is your favourite film, and why?

The Jungle Book, it’s a classic from my childhood

What’s the one song that you can’t help but sing and/or dance to?

Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars

If you could have anything as your last meal on earth, what would it be?

PIZZA!! Especially New York pizza

You’re stranded on an island with one celebrity, who is it?

Difficult one, practically I’d have to say Bear Grylls but for the vast range of stories, definitely Barrack Obama

What has been your favourite moment at YSJ?

Really hard to pick just one! I’d have to say either the sports dinners or varsity away at Sunderland

What are you looking forward to most about next year?

Working with my new team at the Students Union and making sure students get the most out of their university experience

PRESIDENT OF WELLBEING & DIVERSITY

What’s your name and where are you from?

Hey! My Name is Kirsten Jolley and I'm a third year History BA Hons student from Northampton and I have recently been elected as your new President of Wellbeing and Diversity for 2019/2020.

What are you studying?

BA History

What would you say is your favourite film, and why?

I would have to say that picking one film is incredibly difficult! However, if I had to chose just one it would probably be Shawshank Redemption. It's such a classic and I love how despite the negative surroundings, the main characters manage to form such a close bond of friendship and it's just a real feel good film.

What’s the one song that you can’t help but sing and/or dance to?

Again, picking one song is really hard, but I can't help singing along to TLC No Scrubs or anything Catfish and the Bottlemen.

If you could have anything as your last meal on earth, what would it be?

My last meal on earth would have to be a Sunday roast, but it would have to be one that my mum had made as hers are the best!

You’re stranded on an island with one celebrity, who is it?

If I were stranded on an Island I think I would like to be stuck with David Attenborough because it would feel like you were in your own BBC documentary. He would have so many stories to tell about the surroundings and his voice is so calming that even in a stressful situation, like being stuck on an island, I feel like he would create a good vibe.

What has been your favourite moment at YSJ?

My favorite moment at YSJ, apart from being elected as your new President of Wellbeing and Diversity, has to be finishing first year and exploring York with one of my closest friends at uni. The weather was so nice and we spent a few weeks doing some of the tourist attractions and it was a great way to relax after finishing the first year of our degree.

What are you looking forward to most about next year?

The thing I am most looking forward to next year would have to be getting the opportunity to meet and speak to so many new people. From the new cohort of freshers, to current YSJ students and staff who I haven't interacted with yet, I cant wait to get stuck in!

PRESIDENT OF EDUCATION

What’s your name and where are you from?

Hi I’m Jenny, and I’m from a town in between Liverpool and Manchester.

What are you studying?

Religion, Philosophy and Ethics

What would you say is your favourite film, and why?

500 Days of Summer for sure! Honestly the one film that can completely calm me down if I’m stressed, I can probably quote the entire film, slightly embarrassing…. Also for any music lovers the soundtrack is cracking.

What’s the one song that you can’t help but sing and/or dance to?

I mean I’m already known for my terrible dance moves as it is, but probably any S Club 7 or Chic song. Or Jump Around by House of Pain, merely as I know the full rap (it’s a talent, I know).

If you could have anything as your last meal on earth, what would it be?

Very generic answer but most likely my mum’s roast dinner, a classic. If we’re going to get picky I’d say the Christmas Day version where she really goes all out with top notch roast potatoes and pigs in blankets.

You’re stranded on an island with one celebrity, who is it?

Maybe somebody smart like David Attenborough, as I feel he’d know what to do. Or Greg James as he could probably babble on for days, just as much as me.

What has been your favourite moment at YSJ?

It’s so hard to pin-point one moment, but both election nights have been memorable ones, also all the Archie’s Days and Sports Dinners as they are just the best fun. Equally I really enjoyed working on the summer school residentials, with the student ambassadors, a highlight was definitely York Dungeons!

What are you looking forward to most about next year?

Being a Chair of School I’ve had the best fun already getting involved as a part-time Sabbatical Officer, so I’m really looking forwards to being able to take it up a notch as a full time one and being able to voice student opinions. I’m also definitely looking forwards to Freshers Week as that’s always a fun one!!!
