Meet the Society Chair | Music Society

Fancy joining a Society when you come to YSJSU? Have a look at what Emily Howell – the chair of Music Society has to say!

Society: Music Society

Name: Emily Howell

Course: Music: Community and Education

Year of Study: 2nd

Why did you join Music Society?

I joined because I am passionate about bringing music and music education to people. I wanted to learn and promote what musical opportunities YSJ has for all students.

What has Music Society got in store for this year?

YSJ Music society wants to get more non-music students at YSJ, more involved with and aware of the various ensembles and musical events they can get involved with on and off campus.

Why should students join Music Society this year?

If your passionate about music, (even if you don't play an instrument). If you want to find an ensemble / band to join, get music lessons or support, YSJ Music Society will get you connected with the YSJ Music community!!

Best memory from being a member of Music Society?

Definitely has to be taking part in the YSJ Ceilidh! it was so much fun and was amazing to see so many people have a good time and be a part if making that happen.

If you had to join another Club / Society which would you choose?

It would probably be YSJMPS. They always look like their having a good time.

3 Things First Years Should Bring to University?

  1. A note book! You get so much new information, especially in your first semester. Its a must have!
  2. Any musical instrument you play. Music keeps you sane! Sometimes you need to get away from work and have a jam!
  3. A pack of cards. I know its going back in time a bit these days, but card games brought me and my housemates and friends together and was great fun.

Top tip for First Years coming to study at York St John University?

Keep an open mind. An important mind-set when your in a new place with new people. You'll find more opportunities come your way, so just go with the flow, try new things and don't be afraid.
