Hello everyone and welcome back to Semester 2 of YSJ!
I hope everyone has had a good rest and enjoyable winter break. This will be my last semester of my degree at YSJ, crazy to think I have been here so long and come so far in my subject!
Before I left for the Christmas break I had been working on rep related activities for the Humanities department. I had a meeting with Steph, Laura, and a member of staff at the university about the possibility of implementing a peer support plan for Humanities students in September. This is something I wanted to work on to ensure students felt supported not just by lecturers but peers too, and I also feel it will help to break the boundaries between year groups.
We also had another Education Zone, which is a great chance for me to collect feedback off HRP reps and be able to listen to student voice. I went to my first Learning and Teaching panel meeting, which was very exciting. I became a part of this panel when elected in by my other Chairs, and it is lovely seeing the great work lecturers are putting in, and becoming more involved in breaking the staff to student barriers. I additionally had a 1 2 1 with Steph where we discussed plans for the upcoming semester.
I met with Clare McCluskey-Dean, the Humanities Academic Liaison Librarian. I would recommend any HRP students with any library queries to contact Clare, she is great at helping advance journal searches, and general academic advice! We discussed the ILS system and I helped pass feedback on from HRP students to the ILS team. She also helpfully kept me updated on how the ILS team are helping Humanities students. Clare has been doing a fantastic job at boosting the number of e-books on courses, and has been going through reading lists in the department and trying if possible to make essential reads on reading lists available as e-books. This is great news and helps towards one of my promises of boosting e-books in the Humanities department.
That is all for now, I am sure I will keep you all updated in the near future, I already have 7 meetings with HRP and SU staff in place for the upcoming semester, so I will update you on them next month!
Good luck in Semester 2 all.
