Aimée’s November Update

I am pleased to announce that we have 266 Academic reps at the York campus & 23 Academic Reps and 23 Social Reps at the London campus, who have been offered training for this role. I have also held further check-ins this month for our elected Chairs of School & we held our first Student Council of the year with all PTOs. I am working with colleagues on YSJ’s approach to Students as Partners/Partnership + projects, which place students at the centre of important decisions being made at the university, through increased student representation at high-level uni committees.

I have become co-chair of the YSJ Awards Steering Group, a group formed to create a joint SU & Uni awards evening, celebrating both student & staff success at one large-scale event at the end of the year. I am working with all 5 schools to gather peer mentoring insights, to present a paper at Education Committee in February 2022 asking for recommendations for a university-wide peer mentoring scheme to be piloted for the 22/23 academic year.

My new ‘Subject Spotlight’ project launched in collaboration with YSJ Library, which this month focused on ‘Mental Health’. In the library, there is a stand showcasing diverse perspectives on this topic, as well as an online reading list for all students to easily access. I also held my first Education Zone focusing on a ‘Return to campus’’ where feedback was gathered relating to the quality of on-campus teaching, how safe students feel with an on-campus approach this academic year, their experiences with academic support services, etc. Feedback from this was presented to Education Committee.

To end it all I had the pleasure of being a Mace Bearer for the 2020 Graduation ceremonies, attending the YAYA Awards in Bradford, a WW2 exhibition in the chapel, MPS’ Showcase, taking part in Run YSJ’s Cycleathon & being invited to the YSJ Levelling Up Launch.
