Annual Elections Notice 2022

The Students' Union is a student-led organisation. YSJSU is for students, run by students. Our annual Elections are the biggest platform for students to decide the direction of the Students’ Union for the year ahead. This is where our Presidents and Part-time Officers are elected, by YOU, for the next academic year.

The Presidents (Sabbatical Officers)

The three Presidents are the elected voices of all 8000+ students at York St John University. Through these individuals, your thoughts and ideas are circulated to the highest levels of the university, with the aim of making your time at YSJU the best, and most fulfilling experience. We have three Presidents at YSJSU, they are:

 

President of the Students’ Union

Who is eligible: Any current student*

What's the role? Your lead representative for the Students’ Union overall, including being the voice for Sports and Societies. The President of the Students’ Union is the Chair of the Trustee Board, a member of the SU and University Executive Committee, as well as a direct link to the Vice Chancellor.

Is it full-time? Yes, the President of the Students' Union is a full-time, paid role (35 hours p/w).

President of Education

Who is eligible: Any current student*

What's the role? The President of Education is the lead representative for all academic matters at YSJU. Co-chairing a number of university committees, speaking directly to the Chair of School about local matters, and creating campaigns for effective change to curricula and support.

Is it full-time? Yes, the President of Education is a full-time, paid role (35 hours p/w).

President of Wellbeing & Diversity

Who is eligible: Any current student*

What's the role? The President of Wellbeing & Diversity is the primary contact for discussing matters related to the broader student experience. WIth links to the Wellbeing team, student funding, and accommodation, as well as campaigning for student safety and a university that represents its diverse communities.

Is it full-time? Yes, the President of Wellbeing & Diversity is a full-time, paid role (35 hours p/w).

*Any current student is eligible to stand for a President role. This is full-time (35hrs pw) and a postponement of studies may need to be considered.

 


 

Part-Time Officers 

 

Chairs of School

Who is eligible: Students of the relevant school

What's the role? The Chairs of School are the lead student representative at the local school level. Liaising with Academic Reps, Associate Heads, and Heads of School, the elected officers will work to enhance your experience on your programme. The Chairs also form a part of the membership of the Student Council and sit on a number of university committees alongside the Presidents.

How many positions are there? 5.

  1. Chair of School of Arts
  2. Chair of Humanities
  3. Chair of Science, Technology & Health
  4. Chair of English Language & Psychology
  5. Chair of York Business School

Is it full-time? No, the Chairs of School positions are voluntary, part-time roles.

Liberation Officers
Who is eligible: Any student who identifies as a member of the relevant community

What's the role? The Liberation Officers are elected students who represent the broad communities of YSJU. Forming a part of the Student Council and sitting on university committees they campaign to make YSJU an inclusive institution that enables equitable opportunities for all those who attend.

How many positions are there? 8.

  1. BAME Officer
  2. LGBTQ Officer
  3. Postgraduate Officer
  4. Mature Officer
  5. London Officer
  6. International Officer
  7. Womens' Officer 
  8. Disabilities Officer

Is it full-time? No, the Liberation Officer positions are voluntary, part-time roles.

Chair of Student Council

Who is eligible: Any current student

What's the role? Student Council is the lead policy-making body for the Students’ Union. The Chair of Student Council will chair all the council meetings, set the agenda and ensure all meetings are conducted in a fair and proper manner.

Is it full-time? No, the Student Council position is a voluntary, part-time role.

Student Council Reps

Who is eligible: Any current student

What's the role? Student Council is the lead policy-making body for the Students’ Union. The Council meets four times a year and exists to influence the work and direction of the Students’ Union, enhancing our drive to achieve our strategic aims and bettering the experience for all students at YSJU.

Is it full-time? No, the Student Council position is a voluntary, part-time role.

Voting

One of the biggest and busiest weeks of the year! You can vote for who you want to be elected for any of the above positions and choose who you want to represent YOU next year.

  • Wednesday 2nd March 2022 (9 am) - Friday 4th March 2022 (6 pm)

 

Results Night

Join us for the Results of the Elections at one of the biggest events of the year! Find out who will be representing the student voice in 2021/22 during a night of fun and entertainment.

  • Saturday 5th March from 7:30 pm.
