Jamie’s August Update

Jamie’s August Update

August was a relatively quiet month for me as I managed to take some much-needed annual leave to spend some time with my family but that didn’t mean I wasn’t working hard the rest of the month (despite what Chris might say). Here’s a quick snapshot of what I got up to throughout August:

Welcome Week Planning & Content:

We’ve been busy putting together our Welcome Week schedule and making content all about the SU and York as a City and we’re so excited to have students back in September for what should hopefully be a more normal year! Check out our social media accounts for all the details!

YSJSU Social:

You might have seen all over our social media accounts that we’ve launched our YSJSU Social Card which helps you get even more value from eating and drinking with us. You’ll get a 10% discount on everything in the SU (drinks, food, merch etc) and for every £10 you spend you’ll get £1 worth of reward points to spend. It’s going to be such an exciting year so make sure you grab one.

Graduation Planning:

As is usually the case with my updates, I’ve spent some time this month with the Graduation Working Group working on our ceremonies for November and February. All our November graduates should have received their emails by now to book graduation and I cannot wait to celebrate alongside you all.

Officer Festival of Learning:

Alongside Chris and Aimee, I attended the virtual Festival of Learning which was a week of training delivered to sabbatical officers from different Student Unions to help us be best equipped to support you through the next academic year. It was also a good opportunity to network with other officers and swap tips and ideas ahead of the new academic year.

Buddy System:

As I’ve mentioned in previous updates, the buddy system was one of my first-year manifesto points and I’m buzzing that we’re ready to launch it come September. We’ve already had quite a few students sign up which is amazing! It’s a great opportunity to be a positive influence on someone’s YSJ journey so if you’re interested, head over to and sign up!
