Sport and Societies Conference
Our annual Sport and Society Conference is a great way to kick the academic year off in style! Committee members from all of our Sports Clubs and Societies are invited along to spend two days undergoing training to ensure they are ready for the year ahead. The Conference also gives committee members a chance to meet people from other Clubs and Societies during a range of fun evening events!
Varsity – Clash of the Minsters
In October, YSJ go head to head with University of Sunderland in our annual Varsity – Clash of the Minsters. Varsity is a massive sporting event in which our teams compete against University of Sunderland in a variety of fixtures throughout the day followed by a HUGE celebration in the evening. Varsity started in 2013 in which we were defeated, but since then YSJ have been victorious for the past 4 years. Let’s hope this year we make it 5 years in a row!

Old John’s Weekend
Each year, we invite our alumni students (Old John’s) back to York St John University for a weekend to see old friends, take part in their chosen activity and relive their University life. Over the weekend, we have fixtures place at Haxby Road Sports Park and Societies meeting up on Campus! YSJSU’s Pound a Pint is always a great way of spending time with University friends during Old John’s Weekend so it’s worth heading down early!
At the end of the academic year, we bring all of our Society members together for a massive celebration. Societies Dinner takes place at York Racecourse and is a great way for all members to spend time with each other before going their separate ways for summer. We also host our Society Awards Ceremony at the Dinner where Societies may be in with the chance of winning Committee of the Year, Society of the Year and many more awards. It’s always such a fun night and is getting bigger and better every single year.
THE LEGEND OF ARCHIES’ DAY!
On the final night of the Christmas term, after the College first opened its doors in 1841, the Archbishop of York had a barrel of ale donated to the students for them to celebrate the end of the first ever term...
On three very special days each year, at the end of each term, we celebrate & honour this great act of charity with a day of fun, celebration & toasting of a fantastic term!
With a variety of activities, fundraising, music and more, the three biggest days of the year are not to be missed. Grab your friends and head down to the SU for an earlier-than-normal start at 10am to avoid the qs.
