Well, the big week has finally arrived! #YSJFreshers17 has officially started and we are so excited to have our new students joining us here at York St John. After a hectic move in weekend, it is time to dive into all the activities we have on offer here at YSJSU.
One of our biggest events is Freshers Fair where you will have chance to meet all our Sports and Societies members and sign up to anything which interests you. Before you head down to our jam-packed Sports Hall, our current and past Sport and Society members have been sharing their reasons for joining a Sport Team or Society at University.
Are you looking to make new friends? Well Matilda Chappel joined Muay Thai to ‘make the most amazing friends’. Hannah Hopkin, Rebecca Goodinson and Grace Myers who have recently graduated joined Primary Education Society to ‘meet likeminded people who study the same course.’
If you have joined University and already play a sport or have a particular hobby, then head along to our Freshers Fair to find these! Joshua Clarke joined Musical Production Society to ‘continue his favourite hobby’ and Liam Giles joined Men’s Football and Futsal to ‘develop his skills in his chosen sport’.
Sport and Societies are also a great way of improving your physical and mental health. Olivia Bowers tells us that she joined Netball ‘to keep fit’ and Kieran Laws joined Men’s Rugby Union to ‘help him settle into University.’ Even our very own President of Wellbeing and Diversity Annie Severn joined a Sport club ‘to improve her fitness and wellbeing’.
Finally, you may just be interested in trying something brand new whilst at YSJ. Nancy Fitzsimons joined Cheerleading ‘to leave her comfort zone and try something she had never had the chance to try before.’ Luke Bridge joined American Football to ‘try something new whilst at University.’
Visit our Twitter to see more reasons why to join a Sport Club or Society whilst at University!
Whatever the reason, we really recommend you guys join a Sport Club or Society whilst studying here at York St John University. Head down to our Freshers Fair on Wednesday 13th September 2017 any time between 10am and 4pm to meet our Sport and Society members and sign yourself up!
