Pres Blog |  Sports & Societies Event Team!

Good morning YSJ and a massive Happy October to you all! Hope you’ve had a fantastic few weeks settling into University life, but today I’ve got to introduce you to a little squad of mine called the Sports and Societies Events Team; these guys (see below) will be working with me for the entire year, fundraising through various events to ensure that we get a decent pot of money for the end of the year Sports and Societies Dinners. So watch this space! Please get involved with everything these guys organise, because at the end of the day, all the money fundraised will be going to making sure you guys have a brilliant end of year celebration!

Before the chaos starts let’s get introducing them! Here are you Sport and Society Events Team 2017/18:

Nick Hall

Hey how’s it going! Can you introduce yourself, what course you do and what sport or society you are part of?
Hi I'm Nick and I'm a 2nd year Primary Education student and I'm in the Primary Ed Society, and your Society representative this year! I'm also the Men's captain for Hockey and I play Badminton and American Football.

Why did you decide to apply for this role?
I applied for this role because I wanted to get more engaged with the SU and basically just help make sure the Sports and Socs dinners are cheaper for students!

Why students should join a sport or society?
I would tell every student at YSJ to join a sports team and/or society as it's a great way to meet new people who are from different courses and year groups and you make some great friends for life!

Izzy Dewhurst

Hey how’s it going! Can you introduce yourself, what course you do and what sport or society you are part of?
I'm Izi, and I'm doing my second year of Creative Writing and English Language. I'm also Secretary for St John's Big Band and a member of Music Society!

Why did you decide to apply for this role?
I applied for the S&S Events Team because I want to make the end of year dinners some of peoples' favourite events of the year. And, there's the added bonus of being able to put together some crazy fun events throughout the year to fundraise along the way, so what more could you want?!

Why students should join a sport or society?
I think people should join Sports and Societies because it's one of the best and easiest ways to get more out of University than just your course - you get to make more friends from all over the YSJ, and do things that are completely different, and something you may have never even thought of!

Tom THE KNEV Knevitt

Hey how’s it going! Can you introduce yourself, what course you do and what sport or society you are part of?
Hey, it’s Tom! I’m spending this year finishing up a Masters in Music Production, and cheerleading from time to time on the side.

Why did you decide to apply for this role?

I went for this position as a way to contribute towards the fantastic team here at YSJSU, and pitch in whenever possible to give the student body a year to remember. I think we have some cracking ideas in store!

Why students should join a sport or society?
You’ll have heard it hundreds of times before, but the clubs on offer at YSJ really do count towards the full university experience. There you can meet friends that’ll last a lifetime, and fill your years at uni doing more of what you love. Personally, there’s nothing I admire more than the S&S community here on campus, (and in Frat).

Clarissa Murphy

Hey how’s it going! Can you introduce yourself, what course you do and what sport or society you are part of?
Hi, I'm Clarissa Murphy and I am a second year student studying sports science and injury rehabilitation. I am currently the social sec of Ladies football, and bacon sandwiches are my favourite!

Why did you decide to apply for this role?
I applied to be on the S&S event team because I enjoy being able to organise events and have a vast amount of responsibility. I also find it interesting to be behind the scenes in events to ensure it runs smoothly!

Why students should join a sport or society?

I believe students should join a sport or society because it allows them to meet new people, learn new skills and will allow them to develop as an individual.

Remember their faces, they’ll be around campus a lot this year.
