The Students’ Union is helping the University with a project on Learning Analytics to enhance student retention and success. Learner Analytics is about harnessing the data that is collected through systems like Moodle, SITS, and the Library to promote better ways for students to engage and succeed in their studies. The outcomes of the project will be the creation of bespoke YSJU apps for students, academic staff, and student advisors that can be used by those individuals to enhance their learning/knowledge of students’ needs.
Why do we want your engagement?
We want your help to ensure the apps created are what students, academics and advisors need and will find useful. We want students to be at the forefront of the thinking around the student app, telling us what they need to see about how they are progressing or interventions that might enhance their engagement with their studies. We want academics to help us design the academic staff app so that it tells them what they need to know as academic tutors. And we want advisors to help us design the advisor app so that we effectively identify students who might need help to remain engaged or achieve more in their learning.
What are the timescales for the project?
The Learning Analytics project has a Board that meets monthly. The University is aiming to procure a system solution this autumn with a view to conducting pilots in the new year, and aims to have a full system up and running for the 2018-19 academic year.
Who are the contacts for the project who are on the Project Board?
