A Chair of School is a student who is elected to represent all those who study in their School – and there are nine! They are there to be your voice to the University, and make sure students have the best academic experience possible. A Chair of School also looks after a cohort of Academic Representatives, and meets with them regularly to collect feedback. Want to know more? Find your Chair of School below and send them an email!

Alex Terry Chair of School of Languages & Linguistics

Hello, my name is Alex Terry and I’m the Chair of School for Languages and Linguistics. A main objective of mine this year within our school, alongside working with staff and students to achieve great success, is to better incorporate our languages students and staff within our linguistics programme. Improvements are being made to our languages workshop and we’ve put together our Languages Society, that’s being run by four great and enthusiastic English students who also study a language as part of their degree. Alongside that, we have great outreach opportunities in the shape of teaching English to students who have English as an additional language, it’s called York English as an Additional Language or (YEAL). Finally, a bit more about me, I play for the universities cricket team, I also play badminton and currently sit on the Quality and Standards Committee.
